| 概要 | <p>A 53-year-old woman had been aware of a pigmented lesion on the mucosa of the lower lip for several years. The lesion gradually enlarged, and she was referred to our department for further evaluation. On the left lower lip vermilion, a dark brown, nearly round pigmented macule measuring approximately 5 mm in diameter was observed. Dermoscopic examination revealed features of a pigment network. A skin biopsy was performed for diagnostic purposes. Histopathologically, there was relatively uniform epidermal hyperplasia with mild elongation of rete ridges. Melanin granules were observed in the basal layer, but no evident proliferation of melanocytes was detected by S100 protein staining. Scattered melanophages were seen in the superficial dermis. The patient had no significant medical or family history findings. The lesion was diagnosed as a labial melanotic macule (LMM). This case exhibited typical clinical and histopathological features of LMM. Since various disorders can cause pigmented lesions on the lips or mucosa, understanding the disease concept of LMM is important. It is difficult to completely exclude early mucosal lentiginous melanoma based solely on clinical features ; therefore, skin biopsy is a valuable diagnostic option.
